Last week we celebrated a festive, though abbreviated Catholic Schools Week.
Sunday, Jan 27 – We launched Catholic Schools Week with our Open House and Pre-registration for new families! We had a great turnout of prospective pre-school, Kindergarten and transfer families. A good number of those families came from St. Mary’s Catholic Academy as they continue to address the announcement of their school closing. Several of these families did pre-register, and we anticipate seeing more as the winter and spring registrations continue. Welcome to all our new students!
Monday, Jan 28 – Our Annual Spelling Bee was a competitive event for 5-8th grade spellers! Four students will represent Holy Family this Friday at the County Spelling Bee!
Tuesday, Jan 29 – International liturgical musicians/composers Lori True and Paul Tate inspired us with their music and ministry as they provided a wonderful concert after Mass and led a workshop of the student choir with Ms. Jeannine! Note: CDs by Lori and Paul and piano solo books by Paul are available for purchase in the office. 40% proceeds go to HFS!
Wednesday, Jan 30 – Silly Accessories Day was a blast, as teachers and staff dressed like students, and students accessorized in the silliest fashions! Kudos to our students for bringing in almost $1,400 in our Coins for Community collection! The winning homeroom was 6A (MR. Day’s class) and will get to select the charity to receive the funds.
Thursday, Jan 31 – Youth Minister Sarah Raelson sponsored the canned food drive and Can Castle Competition. The winning castle was built by 8A and KA and 3A homerooms contributed cans to the winning design. Thanks to all the students who brought in cans-the wagon was filled! Students met in Family Groups and played Catholic Bingo!
Friday, Feb 1 – Well, Mother Nature stepped in and gave us the day off! Thanks to all from Athletics who helped set up the stage in the gym, though for naught… The 60 dozen donuts went instead to In Heaven’s Eyes and other local charities. We’ll be rescheduling the Special Persons Mass and 8th Grade-Faculty Volleyball game later in the season, so Catholic Schools Week will continue throughout the year.
NOTE: Make-up Day for last Friday’s school cancellation will be next Friday, February 15th as planned on your 2012-2013 events calendar. The Special Persons Mass and 8th Grade–Faculty Volleyball Game will be scheduled later in the school year.
Kudos and Congrats to:
To all our basketball teams on their season and the tournament games held this weekend! Thanks to all coaches and parents for providing the time and sacrifice in volunteer efforts to provide this opportunity for our teams.
Congratulations and GOOD LUCK to our Spelling Bee winners who will participate on Friday at the County spelling bee.
Kudos to the Science Olympiad students and their volunteer coaches! They are participating in the regional Science Olympiad this weekend at IUS. May their many after-school hours of work be fruitful as they compete in 23 different categories!
Congrats Best of luck to our student musicians! Several students sang with the Deanery Honor choir last week at the Archbishop’s Mass at St. Mary of the Knobs, and students are participating in ISSMA Music competitions this Saturday that were canceled last weekend.
Thank you to all who made the Open House/Registration event successful last Sunday! Parents, staff and student ambassadors all collaborated to make the event possible.
Congratulations to second graders for celebrating their Caring Mass with the parish this weekend. This is part of their continuing preparation for First Holy Communion.
A reminder: All returning students should have 2013-2104 registration forms completed and returned at this time. To ensure your seat in next year’s class, please send these asap if you haven’t done so.
Finally, next Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, and we begin the forty-day preparation for Easter. We hope you will join us for Mass 8:00 or noon, as well as our regular all-school Masses during Lent. Students will also be participating in Lenten Stations of the Cross on Fridays at 2:10 in Church, Parents are most welcome.
Peace to all,
