Wow! What a great day! We have been blessed with the best weather, great tour guides, wonderful chaperones and super students!
We began our day at Mount Vernon, the home of George and Martha Washington, and the most popular historic home in America. We toured the mansion that is detailed to look as it did in 1799, the year George Washington died. The rooms feature original furnishings, period pieces, and reproductions. After the tour the students walked the grounds and viewed Washington’s Tomb, Slave Memorial, Blacksmith Shop, Slave Quarters and other Outerbuildings. We all enjoyed the beauty of Mount Vernon!
We then headed to the Smithsonian Museums. Collectively called the Smithsonian Institution, the world-renowned museum and research complex consists of 17 museums and galleries. From the origins of man at the Natural History Museum to the future of space travel at the Air and Space Museum. The museum collection contains more than 150 million objects, works of art and specimens altogether.
After the museums we headed to Hard Rock Cafe for dinner and souvenir shopping! Hats and sweatshirts were very popular items!
We concluded our day with another night tour. Our tour included the following Memorials:
Korean War Memorial
World War II Memorial
(I have to say, tonight’s memorials are my favorite!)
Tomorrow is a special day with mass at the National Basilica.
I am very proud of our students. They have represented Holy Family very well!
